It’s been a little while since I have updated last. The weather has been beautiful and I have been spending a lot of time outside recently (for leisure and yard work). I posted a piece on March 15th for Illustrationfriday.com and over the past weekend I made two companion pieces to it. Here they are:

The end of summer

The leaves are all falling off the trees and winter is just about to begin. I hate the winter, don’t get me wrong I love the holidays and all the festivity… I just freeze out in the cold.
Here is a small acrylic owl painting that I did, I tried to keep it very yellow and washed out looking because as summer fades away it takes all the color with it. I treated the acrylic like I would if I were using watercolor. When I see other peoples artwork I like to see the process. I figure it is only fair to do the same some of the time when I am posting my work. Here is the original sketch I did on the canvas after I filled in a background color:

Here are a few owls that I’ve painted over the past 2 years or so. The first owl I just painted about 2 weeks ago. I really love working on 9″x12″ canvas panels, they are relatively cheap and they are only slightly larger than a standard piece of paper. It’s nice to just sketch something out real quick on these and start painting, the prep time is almost non-existent. Whenever I can’t come up with something else to paint and don’t have anything I need to illustrate I pick up a 9″x12″ canvas panel and paint an owl. It keeps me going so that I don’t fall into a slump in which I’m not making art for a period of time. I have about 30 or so owls that I have painted over the past couple of years.
